If you’re just starting and find the idea of a full portrait intimidating, breaking down the elements can help build your confidence. That’s the approach we take in Stage Two of our program, focusing on these textures and gradually building up to more complex pieces.

Stage One: Mastering the Fundamentals

In Stage One, we cover all the fundamental art lessons you need as a beginner. This stage focuses on basic techniques and foundational skills, preparing you for more advanced topics in later stages.

Stage Two: Delving into Textures

In Stage Two, we delve into different textures, providing a detailed exploration of how to represent them in various media. This stage is perfect for beginners who want to master the basics before tackling complete compositions. We cover a range of subjects, ensuring that when you approach a full portrait, you feel equipped and confident.

Main Stage: The Hen

The main stage is where we dive into more comprehensive tutorials, predominantly focusing on soft pastels, which make up about 70% of the content. However, we also offer lessons in charcoal and graphite, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. Our website is user-friendly, and all lessons include step-by-step video tutorials to guide you through the process.

The Creative Barn Membership

Our membership offers two tiers: Essentials and Premium. The Essentials tier provides access to three modules of tutorials, perfect for those who prefer a more self-guided experience. The Premium tier includes all tutorials plus additional benefits like marketing and selling guidance, live sessions, and more.

Both tiers come with an app, making it easy to access content on your phone or iPad. The Premium tier also offers a private Facebook group where members can interact, share their work, and build a supportive community. This sense of camaraderie is especially strong in the Premium group, where members often form friendships and meet up in person.

Materials and Starter Packs

While the membership does not include materials, we recommend starting with a basic set of supplies, such as Stabilo Carbothello pastel pencils, which are affordable on Amazon. For those who want a comprehensive starter pack, we offer a VIP level that includes everything you need, along with one-on-one coaching sessions.

Pricing and Benefits

The Essentials tier costs $19 USD per month, while the Premium tier is $37 USD per month, with annual options available at discounted rates. Premium members receive additional benefits, such as a welcome pack, a library of copyright-free reference images, and a chance to participate in our yearly planner project.

Bonuses and Extras

When you join the Premium tier, you also gain access to bonuses like group coaching calls, a chance to win a $50 Amazon voucher monthly, and more. We regularly host coaching weeks, which Premium members can attend for free. Additionally, members receive discounts on workshops and first dibs on art retreat spots.

The Premium Tier doors open only twice a year, in January and July, but the Essentials Tier is open all year round. There's no long-term commitment; you can cancel anytime. However, we encourage yearly memberships to ensure ample time to grow and develop your skills.
