Struggling with inspiration? Learn how to find creative ideas in everyday life by noticing what’s already around you.
There’s this idea floating around that inspiration is something you have to go out and find.
That it lives somewhere “out there”—in beautiful places, perfect lighting, or once-in-a-lifetime moments.
But the truth?
Most of the best ideas don’t come from chasing something new.
They come from finally noticing what’s already in front of you.

We walk past hundreds of potential paintings every single day.
A chipped mug on the bench.
A shaft of light hitting the table.
The same tree you’ve seen a thousand times.
The difference between someone who feels “uninspired” and someone who doesn’t isn’t talent.
It’s attention.
Artists don’t necessarily see more.
They just see deeper.
Instead of asking:
“Is this worth painting?”
“Would anyone like this?”
“Is this good enough?”
Try this instead:
👉 Why do I like this?
That’s it.
It might be:
That question pulls you out of judgment and into curiosity—and that’s where ideas start to grow.
You don’t need to reinvent anything.
Look around your own space.
Your kitchen.
Your garden.
Your workspace.
The places you move through every day.
There are objects you use without thinking.
Views you’ve stopped noticing.
Moments that repeat—but are never quite the same.
And that’s the gold.
Because when something is familiar, you don’t just see it—you know it.
And that connection? That’s what makes artwork feel real.
This is where everything shifts.
Instead of painting what something is…
Start thinking about what it means.
A bowl of shells isn’t just a bowl of shells.
It might be:
A farm animal isn’t just anatomy.
It’s personality. Presence. Routine.
When you bring that into your work, people don’t just see it.
They feel it.
Some of the most powerful subjects are the ones people ignore:
These aren’t “big” subjects.
But they’re full of texture, story, and mood.
And that’s what makes them interesting.

This is the part most people get wrong.
They wait.
They wait to feel inspired before they start.
But inspiration doesn’t usually show up like that.
It builds.
👉 You start paying attention
👉 You get a little curious
👉 You notice something small
👉 And suddenly… you’ve got an idea
Not because it landed on you out of nowhere—but because you were looking.
If you’re feeling stuck, try this:
That’s it. No pressure to turn it into a masterpiece.
Just start noticing.
You don’t need to travel somewhere new.
You don’t need better equipment.
You don’t need the “perfect” idea.
You just need to slow down enough to see what’s already there.
Because if you love making art, you’re already an artist.
And your life—exactly as it is right now—is full of things worth creating.
