My top 3 reasons why you should draw wildlife & nature

Find out why I absolutely love drawing wildlife and nature

Top 3 reasons why you should draw wildlife & nature

I absolutely love drawing wildlife and nature and I wanted to share with you my top 3 reasons why that is.  For many years I flitted about trying every craft available and every medium available at the time.  I was just jumping from one to the other, never mastering any.

It wasn't until about 7 yrs ago that I discovered soft pastels and I've always had a love for animals and spending time in nature, so I decided to just focus for once on this one medium and the one subject that I love.  And that's when I started to master this craft called art.  I found that I was more inspired because I was painting subjects I loved and also because I was actually getting better because I was putting in the hours to figure out the techniques required for soft pastels.

So I want to inspire you to pick a medium and a subject and stick with it, and if your like me, then the subject your drawn to might just be wildlife and nature.

Reason #1

Well if you are trying to draw nature, then of course you need to get out into it and observe it.  So I can't think of any better reason to get out of the house and into the great outdoors.  We all know it's good for the spirit to be outside and good for the mind to just sit and immerse yourself in the nature around you. I live on a farm and I absolutely love just going for a walk through the creek or up to the back bush area and just sitting quietly and sketching or even just observing.

Reason #2

Monkey art

Being an animal lover, there's nothing better than being able to give back to these beautiful creatures and as wildlife artists we are in a very unique position to be able to do just that by bringing awareness to different causes with our artwork as well as donating work to animal organizations that you are passionate about.

I have donated a few things to various Dingo organizations as well as Koala and Orangutan charities because these are some animals that I feel need our help.  There are so many out there that do need us as humans to start looking out for them a bit better than we have been.

Reason #3

Even though wildlife art is way down on the list of most saleable artwork subject, dogs/pets is actually sitting at #3 only just behind abstracts.  So for realistic art it is actually the #1 seller.  And that is because of pet portraits.  It is a great way for wildlife artists to make money from their art.  So many people love their pets, especially their dogs because as you know they become part of the family, and when we lose them it feels like we have lost a family member.  So many people want a beautiful keepsake of their beloved pet and that's where we come in with our ability to draw realistic animal portraits for our clients to cherish forever.

So these are my reasons of why I love being a wildlife and nature artist and I hope I've convinced you why you should also give this art form a go by joining me for my Coaching Week that is starting on 6th September 2021.

I'll be teaching how to create a pet portrait in soft pastels and also teaching my step by step charcoal technique along with other fundamental lessons thrown in.
